Some dogs arrive at a shelter carrying a story they cannot tell us.

Sharnae is one of those dogs.

At just 2 years old, this 45-pound mixed breed has visible scars that suggest life has not always been gentle with her.

She has clearly had puppies before, but the rest of her past is unknown.

What we do know is the dog standing in front of us today.

And she still has so much love to give.

A Gentle Girl Who Just Needs a Little Time

Sharnae is spayed and described as having a gentle, lovable personality.

She can be a little timid when she first meets someone, but she warms up quickly and enjoys attention from her people.

She is tolerant of other dogs, although she seems especially happy when she can soak up affection from the humans around her.

For a dog whose past may not have given her much reason to trust, that willingness to connect says a lot about her.

Only 12 Days and She Is Already Struggling

Sharnae has been at the shelter for only 12 days and she is already declining.

That makes finding her a foster or adoptive home especially important right now.

A shelter can provide food, care and protection, but some dogs simply do not thrive in that environment.

Sharnae needs somewhere she can decompress, rest and begin learning what it feels like to be safe.

She does not need someone who knows every detail of her past.

She needs someone willing to become part of what happens next.

Could You Be Sharnae's Softer Chapter?

If you have room in your home and heart for a gentle dog who may need a little patience at first, please consider meeting Sharnae.

She is waiting at Anderson County PAWS for a foster or adoptive family who can give her the security and affection she deserves.

You can also follow Anderson County PAWS on Facebook for shelter information, available animals and ways to help.

And even if you cannot foster or adopt, sharing Sharnae's story may put her in front of the person who can.

Her scars may be part of her story, but they do not have to be the ending.
